Hello all,

I am planning to operate a twitter bot and wanted to include your Wikisource. I would twitter new text from your "new texts" section on the main page. And I need a translation for this phrase to operate the bot: "$book by $author is now available on the Slovenian Wikisource." where $book and $author will be replaced by the bot.

Do you mean the Novosti section on main page?

If I translated string back to English, it'd be "Text $book by author $author is now available on the Slovenian Wikisource.". I used "Text" instead "Book" since we also publish poems, etc.

The reason I added "avtor/ice" is that Slovene grammar is quite complicated.

Well at first, words can have different grammatical genders, and they behave differently according to that. They have different forms in different situations according to their gender and some other silly factors, so you basically get a few different patterns of grammatical cases for nouns.

So avtor is male author and avtorica is female author, and because we need to use akkusativ (4th case) avtor changes to avtorja and avtorica to avtorice. To make all even more complicated to foreigners xD (or easier to type), we usually short avtorja/avtorice to avtorja/ice. It would be even more complicated if you wanted to decline author name and surname. For the same reason you cannot use Wikisource instead Wikiviru (locative of Wikivir).

Slogovne napake

Prosil bi za pomoč, da se gre skozi nova (mladinska) besedila in nalepi predlogo {{slog}}, kjer manjka naslovna predloga ali oblikovanje in se uporabnika o tem primerno (po e-mailu) obvesti, da z delom še niso zaključili. Še bolje je, da se manjše napake kar odpravi. Poleti si bom nekaj dni, da bom potem pregledal besedila in jih če bodo še vedno neurejena uredil, tista brez osnovnih podatkov o avtorju pa izbrisal. Stran predlagana za izbris

Vidim, da je v predlogo naslov nekako prišla obvezna licenca, zaradi katere se privzeto povsod napiše "Pogoji pod katerimi je delo objavljeno niso navedeni! Stran je zato predlagana za izbris". S takšnim načinom je več problemov:

1. je res, da je stran predlagana za izbris? Si res upamo kar povprek iz formalnih razlogov brisati koristno delo desetine ljudi, s katerim ni narobe nič drugega kot to, da v času digitalizacije besedila v Wikiviru licenca ni bila zahtevana (na Wikipediji smo enkrat to že počeli s slikami - marsikoga je takrat enkrat minilo veselje do sodelovanja);
2. niti izkušenejšim uporabnikom ni takoj jasno, da "pogoji" pomenijo, da manjka |licenca=;
3. tudi, če nam to postane jasno, še vedno ne vemo, kaj bi moralo pisati tam, da ne bi bilo povezave na grdo rdečo neobstoječo predlogo - ugibal sem, da "javna last" ali "PD-old", ampak ne.

2010 Fundraising Is Almost Here

Hello Wikimedians, My name is Sam Chapman and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be the liaison between your community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort; we recognize that banner messages which may perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.

I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into different languages and suggesting messages that would appeal to your readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. We've started the setup on meta for both banner submission, statistical analysis, and grouping volunteers together.

Call for image filter referendum

Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on [1]. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

• Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
• New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
• The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
• Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
• Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
• Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
• The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
• More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
• Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
• Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
• Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Wsexport: an automatic export tool for Wikisource

An export tool for Wikisource books, Wsexport, is currently in active development. It is a tool for exporting Wikisource's texts in EPUB, ODT and other file formats. It was created for French Wikisource, but it's also available for the other Wikisource subdomains. It can be used directly from its page on [2] (for texts in all languages, use "www" for oldwikisource), or browsing http://wsexport.fr.nf (currently only for French Wikisource's texts).

In order to work, the tool need some configuration from your Wikisource subdomain, This page explains how to do it. Currently French, Italian, English, and German Wikisource does it.

Odgovarjam z zamudo, kriva je gripa! Delo, ki sem ga omenil, je Butalci. Ponavljam, gre za res majhne tiskovne napake, pa jih bom preveril z originalom, kot svetuješ. Primeri:

• v prvi zgodbi, v odstavku, ki govori, kako mlinske stope oznanjajo Tepanjčane: zadnja beseda naj bo slišali namesto slisali.
• v zgodbi Kriva vera v Butalah, prvi odstavek. piše: ...so rekli Bulalci: "Mi tudi! Kar imajo v Tepanjčani, ...
• v isti zgodbi, predzadnji odstavek, piše radovediiih
• v zgodbi O Butalcu v smreki in mački, ki ni marala pipca v tretjem odstavku piše nevš ečne
• v Zaljubljeni zgodbi županovega sina je v četrtem odstavku piše njegovemn
• v zgodbi Butalski kovač v petem odstavku piše Dideldac
• v zgodbi Butalski gasilci takoj v prvi vrstici piše Butalahimajo
• v isti zgodbi je proti koncu četrtega odstavka s njim namesto z njim
• v isti zgodbi v začetku petega odstavka v Bulalah, kmalu nato tomhola
• v zgodbi Kako sta se skušala Butalec in Tepanjčan tretji odstavek v kosku

To so po vsej verjetnosti napake, ki nastanejo pri optičnem prepoznavanju OCR (pri pretvorbi iz slik v črke). Mislim, da jih lahko mirne duše popraviš. Popraviti bi jih morali že prejšnji urejevalci, a so bili prepovršni. Zeleni kvadratek ni nekaj absolutnega, napake take vrste lahko najdeš tudi v besedilih, označenih z njim. Brisano. Mimogrede: vidim, da si na wikivir naložila po eno pesem sv. Ignacija Lojolskega in sv. Janeza od Križa v slovenskem prevodu. Izvirni pesmi sta seveda javna last, ker so jima avtorske pravice potekle, a v pravu se tudi prevod šteje za avtorsko delo. Pesmi pa sta prevedla še živeča prevajalca in brez njunega privoljenja (ter privoljenja založnikov, ki sta prevode pesmi izdala) pesmi ne bi smela objaviti na Wikiviru. Za prevod velja enaka omejitev kot za izvirno literarno delo, javna last postane šele 70 let po smrti tistega, ki ga je naredil. Update on IPv6

The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to do limited testing of IPv6 on June 2-3. If there are not too many problems, we may fully enable IPv6 on World IPv6 day (June 6), and keep it enabled.

What this means for your project:

• At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334". See e.g. w:en:IPv6 address. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. (See the full version of this announcement for notes on range blocks.)

• In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.

• We suspect that IPv6 usage is going to be very low initially, meaning that abuse should be manageable, and we will assist in the monitoring of the situation.

Help decide about more than $10 million of Wikimedia donations in the coming year

As many of you are aware, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees recently initiated important changes in the way that money is being distributed within the Wikimedia movement. As part of this, a new community-led "Funds Dissemination Committee" (FDC) is currently being set up. Already in 2012-13, its recommendations will guide the decisions about the distribution of over 10 million US dollars among the Foundation, chapters and other eligible entities.

Now, seven capable, knowledgeable and trustworthy community members are sought to volunteer on the initial Funds Dissemination Committee. It is expected to take up its work in September. In addition, a community member is sought to be the Ombudsperson for the FDC process. If you are interested in joining the committee, read the call for volunteers. Nominations are planned to close on August 15.

Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including anFAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

The Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team have begun our 'User Experience' project, with the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries outside the USA and enhancing the localization of our donation pages. I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

Predlog za brisanje

Predlagam izbris strani, ki temeljijo na Wikivir:Posebna dovoljenja za objavo/arhiv in Kategorija:Posebna dovoljenja za objavo. Dovoljenja so neveljavna, ker uporabniki niso bili opozorjeni, da nepreklicno dovoljujejo uporabo svojega dela v vsak namen, predvsem pa licenca, pod katero objavljajo gradivo, v njihovem privoljenju ni bila izrecno zapisana. Vsebina bi morala biti izrecno dana v uporabo pod licenco CC-BY-SA 3.0 ali z njo skladno. Poleg tega gre za zasebno korespondenco in osebne podatke; po zakonu je za njihovo objavo na internetu treba pridobiti soglasje. V številnih primerih pa mi ni jasno, na podlagi česa se sploh lahko verjame, da so ta privoljenja res izpolnili sami avtorji. --Eleassar (pogovor) 15:16, 13. november 2012 (UTC)

Strinjam se z možnostjo, da so posamezni avtorji dali dovoljenje za objavo brez pravega poznavanja licence na Wikiviru in da so ravnali morda v nasprotju z željami založnikov, če so ti oz. kadar so ti kupili avtorske pravice za nadaljnje objave. Vendar zaradi takih primerov nikakor ni pametno brisati kar vseh dovoljenj po vrsti, čeprav so z vidika pravne pameti nepopolni. Z brisanjem bi pravzaprav nasprotovali avtorskim izrecno izraženim željam, da so njihova besedila tudi na Wikiviru, proti čemur bi se smeli avtorji, če bi bili sitni tako kot pravniki, upreti tudi s pravnimi sredstvi. Vidim dve rešitvi problema: 1. dopolnitev oz. obnovitev dovoljenja, da bo držalo kot pribito pred še tako togim preganjalcem javno dostopnih informacij, 2. brisanje licence in teksta samo v tistih primerih, kjer pride do zakonsko utemeljene pritožbe. Ker šolskega projekta, pri katerem so študentje od avtorjev pridobivali dovoljenja, po moji vednosti ni več, entuziasta, ki bi ponovno zvonil na vratih avtorjev ali njihovih vdov, pa tudi ni na vidiku, prvo rešitev dajem v oklepaj in predlagam ravnanje, kot je opisano pod točko 2. K taki drži me nagovarja temeljna filozofija Wikipedije in sestrskih spletišč glede odnosa do avtorske lastnine, ki v perspektivi nadomešča veljavno restriktivno avtorsko zakonodajo in so ji tudi avtorji (v nasprotju z založbami) čedalje bolj naklonjeni. Tega seveda ne počnemo na silo in v konfliktu s copyrightom, vendar tudi v samokastracijskem strahu pred morebitnimi kršitvami ne. Wikipedija nima nobenega razloga, da bi se v tej zadevi obnašala bolj papeško od papeža. Za citirano "zasebno korespondenco in osebne podatke" Petra Svetine lahko od avtorja, ki ga poznam, hitro dobim dovoljenje, da ostane, kjer je, oz. jo v nasprotnem primeru zbrišem. Spoštovani, vaše mnenje je sicer razumno, vendar se morate zavedati, da to gradivo gostuje na strežnikih fundacije Wikimedia. Materialno in kazensko niste odgovorni samo vi kot administrator tega projekta, temveč tudi in predvsem njeni predstavniki, prav tako so moralno in pravno odgovorni do svojih podpornikov, ki prispevajo finančna sredstva za delovanje tega projekta. Poleg tega je jasno, da morajo za vse uporabnike (npr. za vse sodelavce vseh wikivirov) veljati enaka pravila. Iz naštetih razlogov sem odločno proti izigravanju gostitelja in širše skupnosti, saj se mi zdi nepošteno in neodgovorno. O odločitvah lahko razpravljamo samo v mejah, ki jih določajo resolucije fundacije, npr. wikimedia:Resolution:Licensing policy, wikimedia:Privacy policy, wikimedia:Data retention policy itd. Za širše spremembe uredniške politike bi bil potreben konsenz na drugi ravni, ne na tej strani. To pomeni, da pride zaenkrat v poštev samo prva možnost, ker pa ne vem in očitno tudi vi ne veste, kdo bo to izvedel, predlagam, da se a) takoj izbrišejo dovoljenja s te strani; b) postavi razumni rok, po katerem se izbriše tudi ostalo gradivo, v kolikor ne bo potrjeno preko sistema OTRS, ki ga uporablja fundacija. --Eleassar(pogovor) 08:47, 14. november 2012 (UTC)

• Proti masovnemu izbrisu. Za začetku projekta Slovenska mladinska književnost so študenti res pridobili dovoljenja, kjer je bila samo avtorjeva izjava s podpisom, ni pa bilo vidno, da kakšen namen je avtorjevo dovoljenje izdano. Pozneje so se stvari z Mihovim vztrajanjem izboljšale, recimo dovoljenji na Pogovor:Neža Maurer,Pogovor:Milan Dekleva in Pogovor:Slavko Pregl sta v vseh pogledih primerni, vidi se, da sta avtorja vedela, da dajeta svoja dela na razpolago za kakršen koli namen, tudi vrsta licence je določena. P.S.: Vidim, da ti niso jasne podrobnosti o tem wikivirovem projektu. Študentsko pridobivanje dovoljenj avtorjev ali dedičev za objavo slovenskih mladinskih besedil v digitalni obliki je bilo del projekta M. M. Blažić, gl. njen članek, predvsem str. 66. Glede objave osebnih podatkov: avtorji s podpisom izrazijo strinjanje, da je soglaje in ostala korespondenca zaradi preverjanja avtentičnosti javno objavljena, v čem je tukaj problem? Glede OTRS: preverjanje po e-pošti je brez smisla, ravno z namenom zagotavljanja avtentičnosti so študenti stopili v stik z avtorji oziroma njihovimi dediči in pridobili lastnoročne podpise. Problem je v tem, da pogoji licence niso bili omenjeni in obravnavani (rečeno je bilo le "za podrobnosti glej CC-BY-SA 3.0 ali GFDL") in ta stavek je bil vse v zvezi s tem. Nikjer ni bilo razloženo, kaj dovoljenja obsegajo. Vrnjena dovoljenja nikjer izrecno ne omenjajo, da avtor dovoljuje uporabo svojega dela za kateri koli namen ali izpeljana dela ali da se avtor strinja s pogoji ene ali druge licence. Večinoma tudi ni nobenega razloga, da bi res lahko verjeli, da so dovoljenja dali avtorji. Bistvene stvari (uporaba dovoljena vsakomur za kateri koli namen, vključno komercialni in izpeljana dela), do nedavna niso bile napisane nikjer v poslanem ali prejetem pismu. Naša dolžnost je, da poskrbimo, da so prišla dovoljenja s pravega naslova oz. dejansko od imetnika pravic; tudi OTRS postopek npr. zahteva natančno preverjanje e-naslova, podobno tudi 'license review' slik s Flickra ipd. v Commons terja več kot zgolj slepo zaupanje. Prav tako ni bilo nikjer dano soglasje za objavo e-naslovov in drugih osebnih podatkov imetnikov avtorskih pravic. Ne razumem, kako lahko človek s tako malo zaupanja v dobronamernost človekovega ravnanja sodeluje na Wikimedijinih spletiščih, katerih eksistenca je odvisna prav od takega zaupanja. Celo okorele akademske inštitucije zahtevajo (sic!) sprostitev omejujoče avtorske zakonodaje,[3] mi pa naj bi se obnašali bolj papeško od papeža in bremzali voz civilizacije. Protestiram proti legalizmu in pismouški interpretaciji pravil na Wikimediji! Samo še to nam manjka, da nam pismouki pošljejo informacijsko pooblaščenko nad glavo. Kadar postanejo stvari zapletene, v angleško govorečem svetu pravniki posežejo po argumentu zdrave pameti in poštene namere (česar na Kranjskem žal ne cenimo dovolj) in dileme razrešijo v skladu s temeljnimi preživitvenimi interesi civilizacije, kamor Eleassarjevi predlogi nikakor ne sodijo. Med legalistične nonsense sodi tudi zahteva, da se iz dokumentacije o avtorjevem privoljenju črta njegov e-naslov: ja kako pa boš ljuba duša potem preverjal avtentičnost izjave, če izbrišeš še ta podatek! Sem za črtanje e-naslovov, vendar potem tudi za črtanje samodestruktivne neazupljivosti do dokumentacije in za črtanje zahtev po njenem preverjanju in dopolnjevanju. Zdravorazumska rešitev bi bilo preverjanje/dopolnjevanje dokumentacije oz. še preprostejše nemudno brisanje besedila na Wikiviru samo v primeru, ko se avtor ali njegova vdova ali založba iz kakršnih koli razlogov premislijo. Po mojih izkušnjah je táko kapriciranje redko. Pravila in zakoni so dobri in trajni, kadar pokrijejo glavnino primerov, in obstoječa praksa na Wikiviru to počne. Odločajmo se torej samo o izjemah in ne dovolimo, da nam izjemni primeri usmerjajo vsakdanje regularno obnašanje. --Hladnikm (pogovor) 08:42, 2. december 2012 (UTC)

Be a Wikimedia fundraising "User Experience" volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.

I am (still) searching for volunteers to spend some time on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) Next week, the Wikimedia Foundation will transition its main technical operations to a new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, USA. This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. There will be some times when the site will be in read-only mode, and there may be full outages; the current target windows for the migration are January 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2013, from 17:00 to 01:00 UTC (see other timezones on timeanddate.com). Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful

Greetings. As you might have seen on the Wikimedia tech blog or the tech ambassadors list, a new functionality called "Lua" is being enabled on all Wikimedia sites today. Lua is a scripting language that enables you to write faster and more powerful MediaWiki templates.

If you have questions about how to convert existing templates to Lua (or how to create new ones), we'll be holding two support sessions on IRC next week: one on Wednesday (for Oceania, Asia & America) and one on Friday(for Europe, Africa & America); see m:IRC office hours for the details. There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

Wikisource vision development: News April 2013

Dear Wikisourcerors, it has been almost a month since we have started with the Elaborate Wikisource strategic vision grant and we would like to share some news with you:

• The Wikisource vision development pages are open to discussion. Specially important: what do you think of creating together an internationalWikisource User Group?
• In case some Wikisources want to use Wikidata to store book metadata and share it with Commons, we have started Wikidata:Books task force to decide which properties are needed. We think it's very important to discuss book metadata there, both for Wikisource and for all other projects.
• We also started some relevant Requests for Comments for Wikisource:
  • Interproject links interface: how can we improve sister projects visibility?
  • Musical score transcription project proposal: now that Extension:Score allows musical scores both inWikipedia and in Wikisource (example 1, example 2), we need to define where we want music sheets to be hosted.
• We are following and promoting a Google Summer of Code project for Wikisource: Improve support for book structures. We are also helping to convert theUploadWizard customisation for books proposal into another GSoC.
• First contacts have been initiated with Open Library, Internet Archive and Open Knowledge Foundation for possible partnerships. Please check out this page.

And that's it for now! During the month of May, we (Aubrey and Micru) would like to organize at least one Skype or Google Hangout meeting for the users of each one of the 10 biggest wikisources plus another one or two for the other languages (depending on interest). We want to know your opinion on what Wikisource should become in the next years.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

Recent software changes

• The latest version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf4) was added to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 13, and to the English Wikipedia (with a Wikidata software update) on May 20. It will be updated on all other Wikipedia sites on May 22. [4] [5]
• A software update will perhaps result in temporary issues with images. Please report any problems you notice. [6]
• MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode.[7]
• VisualEditor was added to all content namespaces on mediawiki.org on May 20. [8]
• A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [9]
• New sites: Greek Wikivoyage and Venetian Wiktionary joined the Wikimedia family last week; the total number of project wikis is now 794. [10] [11]
• The logo of 18 Wikipedias was changed to version 2.0 in a third group of updates.[12]
• The UploadWizard on Commons now shows links to the old upload form in 55 languages (bug 33513). [13]

Universal Language Selector will be enabled on 2013-07-09

On July 9, 2013, Universal Language Selector (ULS) will be enabled on this wiki. The ULS provides a flexible way to configure and deliver language settings like interface language, fonts, and input methods (keyboard mappings). Making it available here is the last phase of making ULS available on all Wikimedia wikis.

Pywikipedia is migrating to git

Hello, Sorry for English but It's very important for bot operators so I hope someone translates this. Pywikipedia is migrating to Git so after July 26, SVN checkouts won't be updated If you're using Pywikipedia you have to switch to git, otherwise you will use out-dated framework and your bot might not work properly. There is a manual for doing that and a blog post explaining about this change in non-technical language.
